Q. If students have the same amount of credits, how do you determine the specific time they register? Why do some people have an earlier registration time than others if they have the same amount of credits?

In order to assign registration times in our student information system (Colleague) I have to:
- determine who is eligible for registration - exclude students coded for graduation, include students returning from a Leave of absence and exclude students in the process of leaving in the current semester - suspensions, withdrawals, current term leaves
- I then run a process that assigns a "priority" number based on the amount of credits each student has earned.
- Then I run a second process that takes the priority number and assigns a date and time based on how many students we want to register every 15 minutes.
So, other than credits earned, it's fairly "random".
