Change Cengage OWL tests security settings
If you are having problems connecting to the Cengage OWL Tests then you will need to add http://owl.cengage.com and https://owl.cengage.com to Java security settings.
In Windows: Open Control Panel via Start/Control Panel. You may also type java into the Windows Start Menu search bar and click on Configure Java like this...
Double-click on the Java icon in the Control Panel.
Then click on the Security tab at the top of the Java window:
Click on Edit Site List...
Then click on Add on the Exception Site List pop-up window:
Enter the first URL (http://owl.cengage.com) and then click on Add.
You will probably get a pop-up warning at this point. We expected that. :-) Please click Continue anyway.
Now enter the 2nd URL (https://owl.cengage.com) in the lower text area and again click on Add and then on OK.
This will return you to the Java security settings tab. In the Exception Site List you should now see both URLs in place. Click OK.
Thanks! That should take care of it.
If it is still not working please double-check that you followed the instructions step by step.
For Apple computers:
Click on Apple icon on upper left of screen.
Open System Preferences
Click on the Java icon to access the Java Control Panel.
Click on the Security tab.
Java 8u20 control panel Security tab
Click on Edit Site List
Click the Add in the Exception Site List window.
Enter the first URL (http://owl.cengage.com)
Click OK.
Click Continue on the Security Warning dialog.
Now enter the second URL (https://owl.cengage.com)
Click OK.
Now exit the Java Control Panel.
Thanks! That should be it. If it persists in not working then please retry this step-by-step.
