What’s the difference between downloading and installing a file/application?
Downloading an application is like ordering something from Ikea and having it delivered to your house. Installing it is like unpacking and assembling the furniture.
In computer terms, downloading means transferring the application file from a web server to your device. Once you've downloaded it, you need to install it. Often, this process is seamless and automatic, like when you install an app from the Google Play Store or the Apple Store. However, on a computer, you usually need to follow some prompts to complete the installation.
It's a two-step process but it is pretty simple once you understand the terminology.
