What are some tips for organizing files for my classes?
At the start of every semester create a folder for each of your classes and establish a naming convention for your files.
Folders: name the folder using the semester, year, and course. For example, create a folder named fa24-chem-345 for your fall 2024 Chemistry 345 class. This naming convention uses important information that will help you quickly find files you create or download for the class.
Files: name class files using your first initial and last name, course, and assignment name. For example, your Microsoft Excel file would look like this: ngirma-chem-345-experiment8.xlsx. Your professors, who teach dozens of students in multiple classes, will appreciate being able to easily identify the file you submitted! This also makes it easy for you to find content long after the class ends.
